Our Middle and Senior phases of learning are delivered through a curriculum structure that minimises the number of subjects, and teachers, a student has every semester to a maximum of six (6). Middle SchoolingMiddle School at Aspley SHS has been developed in accordance with best practice principles. The Middle School program focuses upon a smooth transition from Primary Integrated themes are a significant component of the Year 8 program. In AIMS (Applications in Mathematics and Science and HUMS (Humanities - English and Scocial Science) thematic studies are pursued through an integrated approach to enrich learning experiences for our students. All students study AIMS and HUMS for the year and select two different subjects to study for each semester from other Learning Area. Year 9
Students study six (6) subjects in Semester 2, leading into the Senior Phase. Senior SchoolingSenior Schooling at Aspley SHS provides quality programs that prepare our students for either University or Vocational Education and Training. Our tertiary-bound students must study at least five (5) Authority subjects and sit for the Queensland Core Skills Test (QCS) in order to qualify for an Overall Position (OP) to gain entry to their tertiary studies. To assist students for the QCS Test, Aspley SHS conducts an extensive preparation program throughout Years 11 and 12 that focuses on the strategies needed to maximise the performance of students on this test. At the end of Year 11, students can apply for positions in our QUT START Program, where students study one University subject per Semester in Year 12 and if successful, gain automatic entry into an array of QUT courses. Information concerning our START program can be obtained through our Guidance Officer. Aspley SHS provides many opportunities for our Vocational Education and Training (VET) students to gain the necessary qualifications for access to the workforce. Students have access to School-Based Traineeships and Apprenticeships, Structured Workplacement through our Work Education subject, TAFE courses and VET Certificate courses, both on and off campus. Information concerning our VET program can be obtained through our Senior Schooling Head of Department. The Senior Phase of Learning covers Years 10, 11 and 12.
