Aspley State High School has been leading the way since 2003 in raising awareness of environmental issues across north-east Brisbane.

The award winning Cabbage Tree Creek Kids Congress - a collaborative project involving students from primary, special education and high schools – was born out of our Science department with the objective of restoring native vegetation of the Cabbage Tree Creek Waterway.

Through the support of our local Environmental Education Centres, the Kids Congress provides a platform for students to share their passion for the environment.

This project – winner of the Healthy Waterways Award 2005 Schools Division - has allowed curriculum programs in our middle school to be designed around local issues and Senior Biology programs now access local resources as a primary focus for learning.

Environmental Captain

Environmental Captain was added in 2005 to the suite of leadership positions within the school.

This position allows for local environmental issues to be championed across the student body and reflects the schools commitment to environmental sustainability.

Thinking Globally – Acting Locally

Further programs looking at water efficiency and the addition of rainwater tanks in the near future will continue to consolidate the schools commitment to Thinking Globally – Acting Locally.

Our school has been successful in attracting government funding to assist in the installation of a range of water saving devices in our toilet systems.

We are also adding water tanks in 2009 to assist our water use in student toilets.
