School Planner

Students of Aspley SHS are expected to have a Planner. Please ensure your child has and uses the Planner. Check that your child is recording homework and assignment work and that study planners are completed. Do not allow your child to make entries that will deface the book. Planners are to be kept free of graffiti.

Newsletter

The school Newsletter includes articles prepared by Administration Staff, Students and Parents on matters of interest. The newsletter is published each fortnight. The newsletter is sent to you via email, at your request, or alternatively given to the oldest child of your family through his/her Form Class. The school distributes this newsletter to employer and community groups, local schools and politicians.

Reporting

Semester Reports are issued using computer-generated comments. Year 8 students will receive a written Report each term. All other year levels receive a Report at the end of the Semester. All Reports will contain comments from teachers with the exception of the Senior Certificate that is issued at the end of Semester 2 in Year 12. Parents are reminded that there is no Junior Certificate. The report issued at the end of Semester 2, Year 10 is a generated school-based report and will follow the same process as any other Semester Report.

In all Semesters, except at the end of Year 12, students will be issued a NR (not rated) if they have failed to submit one or more assessment items during that Semester. Full details can be found in our Assessment Policy.

School Magazine

Our annual school Magazine is called TOORA. Parents may pre-order their copy anytime during the year at the Office. TOORA is distributed in late November.

Personal Injuries

Physical activities, including sports, have inherent risks. Parents should be aware that the school does not have ‘accident insurance’ to cover medical or other costs in the event of accidental injury. The school recommends that parents should consider private insurance to ease concerns in this regard.

Parents wishing to make a claim for expenses resulting from injuries at school should make a written request to the Director, Legal and Administrative Law Branch (PO Box 15033, City East, QLD 4022). The request must outline the circumstances of the injury, the amount claimed and the reasons the parent believes the school caused the injury. Any such claims will be considered on their merits.

Acceptance of claims is based on demonstrated negligence on the part of the school, and is not automatic. Parents wishing to explore the options available to them should seek independent legal advice.
