Title: Certificate II Community Recreaction

The course will be delivered through class based tasks, which will simulate a recreation industry environment. Through real life activities (eg. Working with primary aged, and year 8 & 9 students in interschool sport) students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to apply their knowledge and skills. The program will be over a two year period.

Aspley SHS’s Certificate II in Community Recreation focuses on the planning and conducting of recreation sessions and developing communities through sport and recreation.

Pathways: The certificate II in Community Recreation articulates with continuous qualifications including Certificate III (Fitness Instructor) and Certificate IV in Fitness (Personal Training).

These qualifications can be obtained at TAFE. A traineeship with training colleges are also available. These are application based and normally given to the students that have put the work into the Certificate II course.

 

75 per cent of the course will be involved in practical based activities. At the completion of the course students will gain a range of skills such as: knowledge, skills and vocational competencies for sport and recreation industries, self management skills and the ability to work in a team. Assessment is completed through a series of modules with units of competency to be completed in order to obtain the Certificate II in Community Recreation.

The theoretical aspects above will be taught by incorporating them in and through the students’ participation in a range of physical activities and learning experiences from a number of practical experiences including:

  • Lifesaving
  • Fitness, Weight Training and Program Planning
  • Tournament organisation
  • Refereeing and Coaching
  • Coaching Courses
  • Various team and individual sport pursuits such as lawn bowls, touch football, volleyball, tennis

Assessment

A variety of assessment methods will be used over the 2 year course, which is competency based. Competency means being able to satisfactorily complete a task to industry standards. These include Demonstration/Observation, Practical Scenarios / Role Plays, Projects, Questioning, and Third Party Testimonials.  All assessment will be recorded as Competent (J) or Not Yet Competent (M). It is mandatory that students participate in all practical tasks and training sessions.

Resources

 

 

Students will need to provide a whistle and sun safe hat. Also any costs/mandatory or voluntary that arise to be able to participate fully in this course.
