Welcome to the Mathematics Faculty. Mathematics is an integral part of a general education and relates to many aspects of daily life to ensure our students are confident and active members of the community.

The range of career opportunities requiring higher levels of mathematical competence is expanding in areas such as health, environmental science, economics and management, while remaining crucial in such fields as the physical sciences, engineering, commerce, medical technology and information technology.

Approaches to the teaching of any particular mathematical concept will be influenced by the nature of the concept itself and by the abilities and experiences of the students.

At Aspley, mathematical teaching will embrace a wide variety of teaching styles or approaches which include opportunities for direct teaching, activity-based learning, discussion, applications and problem solving, open-ended investigations, consolidation and practice. It is important to link the various ways that mathematical concepts can be represented.

Pathways

In today’s world, our students have access to many opportunities and pathways to their futures. To help guide our students in the right direction, the Mathematics Pathway (PDF 64kb) will assist in preparing and planning for future study, careers and transitioning to future employment.
