The Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) formed community based groups called Local Community Partnerships (LCP). Our LCP is called transitions@work.

tranzitions@work, formally the Northern Bayside School Industry Links Scheme was originally formed in 1997 in response to a need for a single organisation to coordinate work experience and structured workplace learning for a cluster of Brisbane North high schools.

Working with the local business community, transitions@work identifies those businesses that would participate in student transition to work by hosting work experience or structured workplace learning.

At Aspley State High School, tranzitions@work organise all on-the-job placements (or Structured Workplace Learning - SWL) for the any Certificate Courses in Years 10, 11 and 12 that require placement in industry.

In addition, our school participates in the Adopt-a-School Program. This program aims to develop a close working partnership between specific industries and schools to promote awareness and entry into careers in these industry areas. Aspley SHS is a member of the Printing & Hospitality Adopt-a-School Programs and links into the Technology & Design Faculty and the Home Economics/Hospitality Faculty respectively.

Students undertaking workplace learning gain hands-on training and experience in a number of level skills and competencies that are applicable to a particular industry.

This industry experience will be used to reinforce and consolidate the theory and practical work students receive at school.

Any work completed through the program is linked to a course of study and is a highly recommended or mandatory feature of vocational courses being offered in Years 11 and 12.
