Dance is an expressive art form that allows students to become aware of the physical limitations of their bodies and to use the creative side of their brains through the improvisation and choreography processes.  With the rapid development of technology, this unit allows students to integrate multimedia with dance to create a film clip.  Students will have the opportunity to work both independently and in groups while being introduced to the elements of dance.

  • Identify and manipulate the elements and principles of dance
  • Learn popular dance movement – funk, hip hop
  • Choreograph movement sequences
  • Study performance space
  • Work with varying accompaniment
  • Learn performance techniques – skills/expression
  • Learn how to use moviemaker – computer program
  • Create a film clip
Assessment

Students will complete three major pieces of assessment:

  • A performance task – perform adapted repertoire taught by teacher (End term 1) Download
  • A choreographic task – create a film clip (Mid term 2) Download
  • An appreciation task – written analysis of dancework (End term 2)
