Title: Year 11 English

The Year 11 English course will develop Critical Literacy skills. The initial phase of the course will expose students to the language demands of the Senior Syllabus. Students will be required to complete four written and three spoken pieces of assessment during the year.

The aim of the course will be to develop students abilities in English so that by the end of year 11 they are prepared for the demands of year 12 English. The majority of students in this subject are OP eligible.

Year 11 English is an academic discipline and a sound ability in English at junior level is advisable for those undertaking this course.

• Pushing the Boundaries Short Story Written Test
• Global Unit Constuction of an issue. Oral
• Advertising campaign Written Test
• Trashing Tradition Film Analysis Written
• Novel Unit Analytical essay under Written Test
• Margins of Silence Play performance 
• Documentary History in the Making Oral 

Written pieces will be 500 words minimum. Oral pieces 4-6 minutes minimum.

At completion students should know

How to prepare and plan an effective oral.

That what the reader brings to a text is critical in the construction of meaning.

How to plan and write an analytical essay.

At completion students should be able to

Speak effectively to an audience using multi media to augment presentations.

Construct a documentary and understand the bias involved.

Write effectively in a number of genres including short stories, critical essays and film reviews.

Literacy elements

Visual literacy in film, bias/propaganda, reading, writng for a purpose, analysing texts.

Integrated technology

Computer research on the Internet Q.U.T. information technology experience, Data projector Laptop usage. Word processing.
