Assessment
  • In role as a character in the film - 3 minutes minimum, class and home time to complete task - week beginning 20  March
  • A series of short answer exercises based on studied text - 200- 400 words, class and home time to complete task - week beginning 20  March
  • Reading log - formative assessment by peers, ongoing throughout Semester 1
  • Brochure - 250 words written
  • Oral 4 minutes - promotional speech linked to written topic
  • In role as a travel advisor for a specific destination they have researched - week beginning 14 August
  • Oral with written component 4 minutes - week beginning 21 August
  • Feature Article - human interest story, written 250 words, supervised test 70 minutes
At completion students should know

The importance of a balance of community, work and leisure in productive lives.

That an assertive, proactive approach to life is effective in dealing with most situations.

That they must not be afraid to ask questions.

 

At completion students should be able to

Write effective letters pertaining to jobs, complaints and other business purposes.

Give an opinion on issues that affect their lives.

Speak clearly to an audience on a specific topic

Critically review texts and evaluate their worth.

Integrated technology
A host of different technologies will be used throughout the course ranging from computer skills, such as use of internet for research, word processing and completion of worksheets on computer.

Resources
Novels such as Came Back to Show you I could fly, Non Fiction Don't Die with the music in You and Practical Words (Basic grammar text) are used in the course.
