Home Economics is a Authority Registered subject and as such, contributes to an OP Score. Senior Home Economics has a unique place in the school curriculum in that it focuses on the well being of individuals and families in every day activities.
The course of study is built around the underpinning theme of well being of individuals and families and encompasses the broad areas of food studies, living environments and textile studies. Home Economics in Year 11 and 12 are arranged into four semester units.

- Contemporary Issues in Food & Nutrition for Adolescents (elective)
- Food, Nutrition & The Life Cycle (elective)
- The Child in the Australian Family (elective)
- Design for Fashion (elective)
- Launching & Landing (elective)
Assessment
- Written papers including multiple choice, short answer and some extended writing
- Practical skills and management (practical cooking exam and textile sewing)
- One in class essay or research assignment per semester
Aims
- to develop skills and knowledge that promote a healthy person throughout a healthy lifestyle
- to develop effective organisational and management skills
- to investigate and develop skills for coping with possible future roles, e.g. effective child care, provider of food and clothing needs, working mums, single parent families etc
- to appreciate and implement effective food management and preparation skills
- to understand food as a resource for establishing a healthy lifestyle
- to be introduced to fashion, fabric, design and garment construction

- 1x A4 2D Ring Binder
- A4 Reinforced loose leaf paper
- 2 tea towels
- 1 slice tin (28cm x 18cm) and 1 pie dish are often required for practical cooking. Students cannot take school dishes home.
- Protective shoes must be worn for all practext - “Cical lessons.
Tlothing and Design” Murray and “Food Nutrition and People” Grant and Fraser. These books are provided under the textbook hire scheme.
Students will be required to provide the fabric and other requirements for the construction of their textile articles. Extra detail regarding these requirements for all practical work will be explained in class. Participation in practical work is essential.
