Title: Improving Fitness & Sport Performance
Pre-requisites: Nil
Coordinator: Mr Bob Kemp

This unit introduces students to the scientific study and analysis of fitness and sports performance. In this unit of study, students through their participation in a variety of physical activities and theoretical tasks, learn and develop skills to assess and improve both their own and others fitness and sports performance. They will learn about training programme design and will participate in mini personalized training sessions and programs and evaluate the outcomes.

Theoretical Aspects:

  • Fitness principles
  • The components of fitness
  • Various fitness tests and what they measure
  • Principles of training
  • How the body adapts to training

The theoretical aspects above will be taught by incorporating them in and through the students’ participation in a range of physical activities and learning experiences from the following practical elements:

  • Aquatic activities
  • Team and adapted team ball games
  • Gym and circuit training
  • Fitness testing
Assessment

Assessment will be made through students’ performance on both physical and theoretical tasks. Physical performance will be assessed by ongoing observation of students’ performance and participation of physical tasks against set criteria. Theoretical Tasks will consist of a student log involving collecting, presenting and analysing data, and short answer written tests and take home tasks.
