This unit is designed to continue the development of student’s knowledge and skills in the maintenance of a healthy lifestyle for an adolescent teenager. In this unit of study, students through a variety of learning experiences will research and acquire information to investigate and evaluate how healthy their own lifestyles are and the impact and influence the community and others have on it. Students will experience skills and techniques which may assist them in maintaining and making healthy lifestyle choices. As exercise is very important in maintaining a healthy lifestyle some social team games will be incorporated in this unit.

Theoretical aspects:

  • What Constitutes good health
  • Nutrition
  • Drugs and Mood modifiers
  • Benefits of exercise
  • Stress and Mental Health
  • First Aid /sports injury management

Physical aspects:

  • Students will participate in modified mixed social games and sports selected from sports like touch, soccer, basketball, netball tennis
  • Students will experience and participate a gym programme aimed at maintaining good health
Assessment

Assessment will be made through student’s performance on both theoretical and physical tasks with theoretical assessment being dominant in the profile. Theoretical Tasks will consist of a research lifestyle evaluation assignment collecting ,presenting and analysing data, and short answer written tasks most of which will be in class time. Physical performance will be assessed by ongoing observation of student’s participation and performance in physical tasks against set criteria.
