Title: Analysing Sport Performance
Pre-requisites: Nil
Coordinator: Mr John Cronin

This 4 term unit allows students by participating in and through various selected sporting activities to learn, and experience the ways by which sport performance is improved. Theoretical information is organised to be presented in conjunction with the selected sport activities to give it more relevance and to be more personalized for the individual student, informed decisions.

It is designed to make students focus on and analyse their own and others sport performance and make decisions and actions that help promote the performance of themselves and others as well as offer them insight into the senior physical education course. This course is both practical and theoretical.

Assessment
At completion students should know

• Strategies that support good health and fitness practices and behaviours
• How to design and implement training sessions and programs, tournament draws
• The impact of the various components of fitness on sports performance and improvement
• The impact of drug use and other health issues on teenagers
• How to use specialised equipment in the sport and recreation industry
• The value of sport, games and recreational pursuits.
• How to use Technology Practice i.e. Investigation, Ideation, Production and Evaluation
• How to perform individually and as part of a team to develop physical performance in a variety of sports and games

At completion students should be able to

• Propose and implement strategies that support good health and fitness practices
• Prepare and present their knowledge and understanding of health issues relating to teenagers and Australians.
• Work safely accurately and efficiently whether individually or in teams.
• Select and use appropriate equipment to assist their physical performance.
• Complete training sessions and tournament draws.
• Generate and communicate ideas on the value of sport and recreational pursuits
• Judge the appropriateness of their own processes and performances
• Understand the rules and tactics required to improve performance in various sports

Literacy elements

• Read and interpret instructions, diagrams, patterns and rules
• Use language and terminology that is subject specific.
• Design training sessions, tournament draws, promotional pamphlets, write short responses.
• Listen and interpret verbal instruction and act upon these.
• Observe and process knowledge, ideas and data from teacher demonstrations and apply this.
• Negotiate use of resources.

Integrated technology

• Use of electronically controlled equipment eg heart rate monitors, treadmills, stop watches.
• Use of “click and view” in the ISC.
• Internet research
• Excel spreadsheets and graphs
