Physical Education, in the senior school context, involves students learning in, about and through physical activity. Physical Education focuses on the complex interrelationships between motor learning and psychological, biomechanical, physiological and sociological factors that influence individual and team physical performances, together with the wider social attitudes to and understandings of physical activity (QSA Physical Education Syllabus, 2004).
Physical Education is an Authority subject and at Aspley State High School the Physical Education curriculum aims to provide students with the opportunity to:
• Demonstrate a range of physical responses within the contextual demands of the activities • Accept responsibility for the organisation and development of their learning experiences within a framework provided by the teacher • Experience the enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and social interaction that is possible through engagement in physical activities.
Topics covered over the two years:
Students will study the following topics throughout 8 units of work:
• Learning physical skills • Skill acquisition • Psychology of learning physical skills • Biological bases of learning physical skills • Biological bases of training and exercise • Energy for physical activity • Training exercise and physical performance • Acquiring and evaluating physical performance capacities • Physical activity in Australian society • Body, culture and physical activity • Lifestyle, leisure, recreation and physical activity • Money, Media, power and physical activity.
The theoretical aspects above will be taught by incorporating them in and through the students’ participation in a range of physical activities and learning experiences in the following units of work:

A range of assessment techniques such as physical performance, oral and written activities will be used. The assessment will be structured so that it is developmental leading to Year 12 where “fullest and latest” information about the student will be used for the exit result.
