This is a very practical subject where students will be working in a workshop situation utilising tools and equipment to produce timber based projects.

Knowledge & understanding

  • Technical vocabulary
  • Underpinning principles
  • Safe work practices (safety rules and safety regulations)
  • The effective use of a range of tools, equipment and machines
  • Resources – identifying appropriate materials, tool, equipment and processes
  • Methods used in the construction of practical projects

Applied processes

  • Use available information to produce a practical outcome
  • Create a procedure or plan that will enable the satisfactory completion of a project

Practical skill

  • Demonstrate ability to: use a range of tools and equipment with due regard to safe and appropriate operation procedures to produce work, solutions and artefacts to a specification
Assessment

The above criteria are used to determine a student’s level of achievement. They are of equal weighting in determining a student’s level of achievement. Assessment instruments include practical artefacts, project planning and evaluation. Students will produce a folio of work that includes images of their individual artefacts, planning documents and evaluations.
