Code: JMA001
Title: Mathematics
Pre-requisites: Nil
Outcome levels: 5/6
Coordinator: Mr Michael Craven

Students investigate patterns which lead to algebraic representation and manipulation and solving equations. They use a range of computational methods to solve problems which involve integers, common and decimal fractions, percentages and rates. They investigate ways to determine areas and lengths of boundaries and to classify 2 and 3 dimensional shapes.

Topics
  • Mobile Detectives (Patterns and Algebra)
    • patterns & graphical representations
    • like terms; Distributive Law
    • backtracking (solving equations)
  • Mobile Maths (Number)
    • Applications using decimals, percentages, fractions and integers
    • Sports activities
  • 2006 Space Odessey (Measurement and Space)
    • Plane shapes & 3 D shapes
    • Measurement – length and area
