HUMS

Areas of investigation could include:

  • General overview of the region - physical landscape.
  • Cultural diversity - including religious diversity (Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam)
  • The challenges of population
  • Regional security
  • Do we have an obligation to our neighbours?
  • What texts tell me about Australia's place and role in the Pacific Rim and to influence what others know and feel about Australia's role in the region?
  • How do texts make me feel and think about Australia's role in the Pacific Rim?

AIMS

This unit looks at the relationships between matter and materials, applying ratio and proportion to the design and manufacture of specialist items across the Asia-Pacific region. It will apply the consepts of Space (Geometrical) to structure and function. It will also investigate the application of Probability (Chance and Data) to significant geological events that have impacted on this region over different time periods.

By the end of this unit students will be able to:

  • Relate the use of Ratio and Proportion to Chemical reactions, Alloys etc.
  • Explain the particle theory of matter.
  • Apply chance and data theory to real world applications including geographical events across the Asia-Pacific Region.
  • Relate concepts of Scale, Geometric Shape and Space to the design and construction of significant Australian inventions that have shaped the way we live.
  • Draw on current media (such as "Myth Busters") to guide students in the development of scale models to test/model invention and/or materials.
Assessment
  • Take home assignment - middle Term 3
  • Oral presentation - wnd of Tem 3
  • Folio/student class work - progressive
