Australian School Based Apprenticeships PDF Print E-mail

Aspley State High School offers Year 11 and 12 students the opportunity to work and train in businesses and industries while completing some subjects at school.

School Based Apprenticeships are usually at a Certificate II or III level and are recognised under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF).

Students apply for advertised vacancies and will be interviewed and selected by an employer. The student is ‘signed up’ using a legally binding contract that is registered with the Department of Education, and Training (DET) and are required to become competent in units appropriate to their certificate.

Students generally attend school four days per week and work in the workplace on the other day, usually a Thursday. They are paid for time spent in the workplace, but not for set training time.
