Assessment

Assessment in Workplace Education is competency based and is ongoing with units of work generally due at the end of each term. Competency means being able to satisfactorily complete a task to industry standards. Competency in the units of work will be based on both “on the job” (i.e. in work placement) and “off the job” (i.e. in the classroom) learning. That is, students must be able to perform competencies in the classroom as well as in the workforce.

All assessment will be recorded as 'Competent' or working 'Towards Competency'.

  • Competency in the ‘Off the job’ component will be assessed through the completion of the unit booklets
  • Competencies in the ‘On the job’ component will be determined by your teacher in consultation with your workplace supervisor feedback and report sheets from employer in Student Work Placement Learning Record Book .

In order to complete the full Certificate and have it recorded on your Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE), a total of 40 hours must be spent in the workplace i.e. “on the job”.

Aims
  • to assist in the development of workplace competencies e.g. teamwork, effective communication, customer service, etc
  • to develop competency in industry specific skills (e.g. how to use industrial equipment)
  • to provide opportunities to acquire part-time work
  • to begin an Apprenticeship or Traineeship (school-based) while completing Year 12 Senior Certificate (but Workplace Education is not a prerequisite to a SAT)
  • to improve the opportunities for acquiring work after Year 12 by making contacts and establishing networks
  • to acquire experiences and insight into a variety of work options and the “real world” of work
  • to develop attitudes and ethics that promotes work readiness
Resources

A text is not available for this subject. Students will require a suitable means of recording and managing classroom learning experiences (i.e. a folder). In addition, we have asked students to keep a plastic enveloped folio for presenting special documentation.

A Student Workplace Learning Record (Diary) will be provided by the school prior to attending the five days of "on the job" workplace learning.

Students also need to be aware of their responsibility in organising private or public transport to their work placement. The staff of tranzitions@work does try to organise placements close to their home but depending upon the chosen industry, this may not always be possible.

The school will offer this vocational course provided it meets the human and physical resources as described in the Training Package and AQTF Standards. The school reserves the right to cancel or suspend the vocational component of the course should it not be able to meet these requirements.
