Title: Economics
Pre-requisites: There are no prerequisite for this subject although a Sound Achievement or better in Junior English or a Social Science subject would be an advantage. Students need to have a good general knowledge of the world around them and follow the news and newspapers.

Economics is a subject that will allow students to enter the world at the end of Year 12 with a good working knowledge of the Australian economy and how it impacts on their everyday life. An important aim of the course is to allow students to be economically literate and to become active and informed citizens. Issues such as unemployment, the sharemarket and government policies recur through the course.

Topics

Over the two-year course students will study 4 core units as well as other elective topics.

The core units are:

  • Circular flow of money & the price mechanism
  • Economics of labour
  • Contemporary economic management
  • International economics

The elective units are:

  • The Stock Exchange
  • Personal Finance
  • Economics of Industry
  • Population
  • Economics of Trade
  • Development Economics
Assessment

Assessment includes short response tests, research reports, non-written responses and essays.
