Aspley State High School is a fierce competitor on the sporting field. Despite our size, we produce competitive and winning teams in the full range of sports we offer. Our Sports Curriculum is made of the Year 8 sports program, Health & Physical Education elective programs in Years 9 to 12, Intra School Sport and Inter School Sport. All students are encourage to participate. Sport and physical activity is an integral part a student's health and personal development. It allows for the development of skills and knowledge to pursue healthy and active lifestyles. In addition, students participate at a social, competitive and re-creative level - all of which contribute towards a students effective citizenship. Intra School SportIntra School Sport includes Inter House Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country Carnivals. Dates for these carnivals can be found on the Sports Calendar. All staff are involved in these events as officials or with the houses engendering spirit and participation. Staff are allocated a house and may wish to volunteer to be House Master/s or House Mistress/s for the year. Year level co-ordinators may also organise various inter class competitions to meet the above aims at class level. Swimming Carnival 2009 DOWNNLOAD HERE Athletics Carnival Programme 2009 DOWNLOAD HERE Inter School SportAspley SHS is a member of the Central District-Metropolitan North Region as part of our Inter School Sport program. Students in Years 10, 11 and 12 compete Wednesdays from 1.15pm to 2.40pm. Sports days for Year 9 competitions are held during the year and are on the School Sport Calendar. Form teachers for Year 9 are responsible for students at the various venues on those days. Year 8 sport is organised between a sub-district comprising Aspley, Bracken Ridge, Earnshaw College and Sandgate State High School. This is conducted between 1.30pm and 2.30pm on Tuesdays. Inter School CarnivalsAspley SHS also competes in the District Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country Carnivals. Central District Athletics Program 2009 DOWNLOAD HERE Representative SportStudents have the opportunity to gain representative selection in the sports conducted by Queensland Secondary School Students Sports Association (QSSSSA) during the year. We strongly encourage and support students in these endeavours. They may need to be selected in a Central District team to compete at Regional cluster days held throughout the year or nominate directly to trial at those cluster days. Please refer to the School Sports Calendar to find out the timing for the cluster days. When nominating for these trials, students are required to take with them a series of completed forms to allow them to participate . These forms can be downloaded from this site by below. As well as these forms , students have to get permission from the school to participate. This form is available from the sports department at the school and must be signed by the principal. These forms can also be accessed from the met north sport website and are also available on the intra school network on staff common. Teachers may nominate to coach, manage and convene teams at a district/regional level. Nominations are called usually at the end of each year.
