Code: DRA002 Title: From Page to Stage Pre-requisites: None Coordinator: Ms Sue Lonsdale Working with scripts is a process of discovery. A polished performance of a script is the end product of much analysis and many rehearsals. This unit introduces students to the Elements of Drama, through the use of drama exercises and games, simple improvisations and role-plays. Students will be introduced to scripts and will develop a practical understanding of realistic and believable acting techniques and fundamental aspects of the actor’s craft, such as the use of voice and movement. This unit culminates in a public performance, which aims to challenge and empower both performer and audience. Topics- Learn how to stay in role

- Rehearse and perform a variety of Australian and world scripts
- Develop an understanding of the script and explore creative opportunities for its presentation

AssessmentStudents will complete three major pieces of assessment: At completion students should know- How to structure dramatic action, both individually and in groups, using elements and conventions appropriate to the conventions of realism
- How to present selectd roles using performance skills appropriate to the conventions of realism
- How to identify and evaluate the application of dramatic elements and conventions used in their own work and that of others, communicating an awareness of the realism form, style and purpose
At completion students should be able to - Explore and apply the conventions of realism in workshops
- Structure and create texts
- Experiment with interpretations of extracts or scripts for different purposes
- Interpret a peice of script for performance
