Title: The Performer's Tools
Pre-requisites: DRA001 or DRA002
Coordinator: Ms Sue Lonsdale

This unit will help students discover, explore and develop ways to create, perform and appreciate drama. Each lesson in this study offers opportunities for creativity, imagination, ideas and skills to create interesting and entertaining drama.

Students will explore the Body and Voice, Improvisation, Theatresports, Playbuilding, Playback Theatre, Documentary Drama and Writing a Review. 

Topics

  • Devise and refine scenarios and scipts, both individually and as part of an ensemble, using elements and conventions.
  • Learn the rules of Theatresports
  • Learn how to interpret true stories
  • Present rehearsed, polished performance applying performance skills appropriate to this genre.
  • Write extended analytical essays that evaluate the forms, styles and processes used in dramatic action and performance.
Assessment
At completion students should know
  • the steps of playbuilding, from research to performance
  • the structures in playbuilding
  • how to create a character
  • how to create a play 
At completion students should be able to
  • create and sustain interesting character types
  • work successfully as an ensemble
  • present selected roles using performance skills appropriate to the style and purpose
  • interpret a peice of script for performance

  • Use of ICT's in research and class work
  • Develop drama vocabulary
  • Communication skills
  • Modified exercises for students in need of extension or special consideration
